Patching in Big Data Service

Patching for Big Data Service clusters.

Prerequisites:

  • If you have created a Big Data Service cluster with the NAT gateway option set to false as described in Creating Network Resources, be sure the VCN you are using has a Service gateway configured with explicit route added to allow access to the OCI Object storage bucket. For detailed information, see Service Gateway.
  • To allow all access to YUM repositories for each region, this access must be granted on all nodes.

Exact YUM URL to enable connection to for each region: https://yum.<region-identifier>.<realm-domain>

Region identifiers for OC1 can be found at: Regions and Availability Domains

Realm domain for OC1 is oci.oraclecloud.com

  • To install an OS patch there must be at least 10 GB of free space on the root volume on each cluster node.

Software Version

  • You must keep the software versions of the services current to maintain version currency and we recommend that you apply the most recent patch as soon as it becomes available.
  • We are not responsible for performance, functionality, availability or security issues experienced with Big Data Service that might result from running earlier versions.

Patching Upgrade

  • Patches for Big Data Service are rolled out periodically. We recommend that you apply the most recent patches within three to four months to maintain support of the product. Delaying patches causes your service to be unsupported for future patching and upgrade.
  • Most patching operations are rolling operations, so your service continues to function with very little interruption during the patch process.
  • Patches are cumulative, that is, the latest patch includes all the updates included in earlier patches.
